Greece. Nineteenth-century albumen print depicting the grave stele of Hegeso. The near-complete stele made from Pentelic marble is in the form of a naiskos (small temple) and shows the deceased woman, identified by an inscription as "Hegeso, daughter of Proxenos", seated and picking jewellery from a pyxis (box) held for her by a standing slave-girl. The relief was found in 1870 in the Kerameikos, the ancient cemetery of Athens, before being acquired by the National Archaeological Museum of Athens in 1884. Today a replica stands in situ, out of doors in the Kerameikos, while the original remains in the museum.

Albumen print. Good tonal range and in fair condition; Dimensions: 200 x 260mm. (8 x 10.5 inches).
