Robinson visited a friend in the Ionian Islands in 1829 and was tempted by the proximity of the Levant into making his present journey. He travelled via Egypt having spent a winter in Smyrna. From there he travelled to Jaffa visiting the whole of Syria and Palestine arriving at Constantinople at the end of 1831. He returned to Europe via Adrianople, Salonica, Thessalie and Athens.

First edition; 2 vols, 8vo (20.5 x 13 cm); 7 folding engraved maps and plans, a little occasional foxing, contemporary ownership inscriptions to titles; publisher's blind-stamped fine-ribbed blue cloth, gilt spines professionally repaired, a very good set; xii, 308; viii, 358, [2] pp.
