A poetic satire originally published in 1768, by a notorious friend of Laurence Sterne and author of Crazy Tales (1762), written in the form of eight fables in verse. Wilfully parodying Mandeville's Fable of the Bees, the work is addressed to the imaginary Society of the Makaronies, confusingly and comically explained in the preface.

One of 300 copies on hand-made paper, this unnumbered; 8vo; title printed in black & red, browning to half-title, last page and endpapers; publisher's blind-tooled maroon cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut.
