Field and Covert [and] Moor and Marsh.
London, Longman, Greens, and Co., 1892; 1893.
A sporting and publishing project conceived by Longmans, Green & Co. and edited by Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort (1824–1899), the Badminton series aimed to produce 'a modern encyclopaedia to which the inexperienced man, who seeks guidance in the practice of the various British Sports and Pastimes, can turn to for information' (Preface).
The co-author of these works, Lord Walsingham, was by all accounts a terrific shot, bagging a remarkable 1070 grouse in a single day of shooting on Blubber Houses Moor, Yorkshire in August 1888.
Fourth editions; 8vo (19.5 x 14.5 cm); frontispieces, vignette-titles, numerous illustrations including full-page plates and vignettes, half-titles, ads. to vol. 2; publisher's pictorial brown cloth, gilt spine, top-edge occasionally uncut, lightly spotted throughout; xv, [1], 357, [1]; [2], xiii, [1], 358pp.
