KINGSTON, Keedy.

A Well-Kept Secret Disclosed.

London, Diprose & Bateman, 1896
£950

A remarkably scarce example of Victorian detective fiction, not in the British Library, and with only one copy we could trace in other institutional holdings. The title-page gives the author as 'Keedy Kingston', adding 'author of The Diary of a London Detective.' We could only locate one copy of this title as well, held in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which gives the author as 'Col. Henderson', suggesting that Keedy Kingston is the author's real name, supported to some degree by that name also appearing in a contemporary anthology and periodical.

The collation corresponds correctly with that recorded in Dorothy Glover & Graham Greene's Victorian Detective Fiction, but it is unclear whether there was a matching blue paper lower wrapper.
