Ahnung is one of the key photobooks of the late 1980s, one of several important photographic series informed by the exchanges that took place at the Werkstatt für Fotografie, a collective led by Michael Schmidt and based at the Volkshochschule Kreuzberg in Berlin. Schmidt invited American photographers such as William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Larry Clark, Robert Frank, Lewis Baltz, and John Gossage to Berlin, where they made work and gave workshops.Made in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ahnung is concerned with the uncertainty surrounding the advent of this new era and with the potential of photography to convey emotions rather than merely record the surface of things.
First edition, 800 copies, signed in pencil on the title-page; (300 x 252 mm, 12 x 10 in); 16 colour photographs; black endpapers, green paper-covered boards, title to upper side in black, black cloth spine, minor wear to extremities, a close to fine copy; [28]pp.
