Inscribed to Robert Hyde Greg Esq (1795-1875), from the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. He was a noted industrialist, his family's textile being one of the first of the Industrial revolution, and a staunch believer in free trade principles.

Pamphlet by John Crawfurd (1783-1868), a noted Diplomat who led embassies to both Siam and Burma and was the last Resident of Singapore. He was a lifelong believer in free trade and in this pamphlet laid out his arguments for the abolition of monopolies. He particularly focusses on the idea that the enterprise of individuals would reap more trade than a larger planned model, and would become a key parliamentary figure in the eventual abolition of the monopoly in the Act of 1833. It was later known that he was being paid £1500 a year by Calcutta merchants to lobby on behalf of their interests.
