Kiev, Tip. E. Ia. Fedorov, 1882.
The lexicon consisted of many archaisms, little-used dialectal words, garbled loanwords, and even Piskunov's neologisms (eg, bylynar 'botanist', vsedijma 'history', hojnyk 'surgeon', hnita 'print'). Piskunov looked to traditional songs and collections of riddles and proverbs compiled by Hatsuk and Nomys for inspiration for words. He also credits Shevchenko, Kulish, Kotliarevsky and Storozhenko and many others for their collections of folk tales. Piskunov was passionate about Ukrainian language and writes that he would gladly devote his whole life to the pursuit of the most complete dictionary possible. He also declares that people who believe that Ukrainian is a dialect of Russian distortion are 'fat and ignorant'.
