Photograph showing the Palace of Industry which was built for the Paris World Fair in 1855. Napoleon III aimed to use the fair to prove the superiority of France over England, who had been hosts four years previously. It was later destroyed in 1897 to allow the building of the Grand Palais for the 1900 World Fair.
