Yale scientist Bertram Bolden Boltwood (1870-1927) was one of the founders of the field of radiochemistry. He discovered that all radioactive elements eventually decay into lead, and developed the technique of radiometric dating, showing that some of the Earth's rocks were 2.2 million years old, much older than previous estimates.
