pioneering radiochemistry
Offprint of a paper following from Boltwood's discovery of the parent element of radium, the isotope thorium-230, here called ionium.Yale scientist Bertram Bolden Boltwood (1870-1927) was one of the founders of the field of radiochemistry. He discovered that all radioactive elements eventually decay into lead, and developed the technique of radiometric dating, showing that some of the Earth's rocks were 2.2 million years old, much older than previous estimates.
12-page offprint, wire-stitched; contents toned; original buff wrappers printed in black, wrappers tanned along the spine and edges, very good condition.
