The Dragons of Eden, in which Sagan follows the evolution of human intelligence, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1978 in the category of General Nonfiction. Writing in The New York Times, John Leonard described the book as 'a delight... because so much information is so gracefully conveyed... because Dr. Sagan has a cheerful weakness for good anecdotes' (John Leonard, New York Times, 1977).
