The first edition in English of French historian Henry Daniel-Rops' (1901-1965) influential history of the Reformation. Translated out of the original French by Audrey Butler from the first volume of Rops' L'Église de la Renaissance et de la Réforme, and pleasingly bound in half red morocco gilt.

First edition in English; 8vo (21.5 x 14.5 cm); errata slip to [v], unmarked internally; modern half red morocco over red cloth boards lined in gilt, spine in 6 compartments with one-line gilt-panelled border, gilt lettering and ribs, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, a little worn to extremities, spine slightly faded, else very good; [xii], 560pp.
