The third edition of this translation of the Florentine poet Dante Alighieri's (c.1265-1321) Divine Comedy, here rendered into blankverse as The Vision, or Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise.

The translator Henry Francis Cary (1772-1844) began working on the poem in 1797. He completed his translation of the Inferno in 1805, publishing this separately with parallel text in the original Italian the same year. The full translation was not completed until 1812, and not published until 1814 when it appeared in a small sextodecimo format that was almost illegible.
