Kárteszi was, for forty-eight years, professor of mathematics at Eötvös Loránd University, serving as head of the Department of Descriptive and Projective Geometry, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and later Prorector. 'His main interests were the didactics of mathematics and everything connected to geometry. He published papers in classical geometry, projective geometry, discrete and combinatorial geometry, (classical) algebraic geometry, discrete and combinatorial geometry, elementary and descriptive geometry, combinatorics, finite geometry, and foundations of geometry... He was a devoted teacher, and even his mathematical works contain didactic ideas. He always looked out for problems that could be formulated for a secondary school student to illustrate an important mathematical idea. He published about 120 papers in mathematics and the didactics of mathematics and wrote 11 books' (Korchmáros & Szönyi, 'Ferenc Kárteszi: A Short Biography', Contributions to Discrete Mathematics, volume 2, number 3, 2008).
