Edith & Frederic Clements were married American botanists who collaborated on a number of joint publications. Edith often illustrated their work, and her botanical plates were celebrated for their artistic merit. In their preface, they write that this book 'has been written in the hope of making the study of flowering plants both simple and attractive to beginners of all ages' (p. iii).
