Jena, Eugen Diederichs Verlag, 1910.
Although he would later come to be disappointed by the vicissitudes of the Weimar Republic, Diederichs had in previous decades developed a vision of cultural revitalisation and national rebirth drawing heavily on German Romanticism. His publishing company therefore came to be associated with neoconservative values, a cultural movement that was steadily gaining traction by the turn of the twentieth century.
'Anniversary' edition, limited to 1000 copies; small 4to (270 x 200mm); blackletter calligraphic script on beautifully printed paper, usual age-toning, only minor spotting to prelims and fore-edges, no inscriptions; publisher's full vellum over wooden boards, reversed bevel, elegantly gilt-titled, gilt top edge, mild rubbing to lower panel, binding is firm, very good indeed; 406pp.
