Henry Gouger (1799-1861) was an Anglo-Indian merchant who travelled to Ava in 1822 on business and was captured and interned during the First Anglo-Burmese War, 1824 to 1826. Written many years later, and shortly before he died, Gouger recollects here his experiences during those two years.

First edition; 8vo (20.5 x 13.5 cm); engraved frontispiece, additional engraved title, 4 engraved plates, discreet booksellers ticket to pastedown; publisher's original green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, large gilt pictorial vignette to upper cover, slight mottling to board margins, a very good copy; xii, 327, 32 pp.
