The Holy Land. The ceremony of Washing the Feet is performed by the Orthodox Patriarch and takes place on the Holy Thursday. During the ceremony the Patriarch washes the feet of twelve priests. The ceremony has its origins in the 'Last Supper', when Jesus demonstrated the need for the disciples to be servants to the needs of others, as he himself set the example by washing the feet of the disciples following the breaking of bread.
