Company of Merchants Trading to the Levant
The second work concerning trade with the Levant shows the increase in commercial activity between Great Britain and Turkey and Egypt. It was felt that a burden on the British merchants was the Charter of the company requiring them to maintain their own consuls and officers abroad. If the Charter was surrendered, trade and profit would be increased as a result of the Government taking over these responsibilities.Scarce, only in 12 libraries worldwide and not in Cambridge or Oxford. Not ascribed to Lord Grenville (1759-1834) in the BL catalogue but the present inscription, along with being bound with another work by Grenville, strongly implies the work is by him.
First editions; 8vo, 2 items bound in one, xii, 85; [iv], 48 (i.e., 46, last leaf misnumbered) pp., second work inscribed by lord grenville at head of half-title, contemporary morocco-backed blue cloth, a very good copy.
Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 24520.
