10 photographs taken at the time of the excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.

A rare group of seemingly unpublished photographs taken by Harry Burton (1879-1940), the renowned photographer of Egyptian antiquities and the man who first photographed the opening of the tomb of Tutankhamun and its treasures within. At the time Burton was working for the Metropolitan Museum on a nearby excavation but was loaned to Carter as it was apparent to all that he needed the services of the finest possible photographer to record the greatest archaeological find of the twentieth century.

The subjects are: 1. One of the chariots found covered with gold and embossed with figures and designs; 2. Entrance into the tomb; 3. Removing a couch from the tomb, tourists surrounding wall; 4. Removing from tomb the portrait bust in painted wood of Tutankhamun; 5. funeral wreath with various small treasures; 6. Removal of royal coach. Lord Carnarvon and daughter following; 7. removal of lion coach; 8. Box containing royal robes; 9. Small stools of ivory and ebony; 10. Four trays containing treasures from tomb.
