Enjoying a now vanished world of sleepy colonial rule, the author sketches a summer spent in the Caribbean, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. He recreates the history of islands like Jamaica and Trinidad through the diaries and historical accounts of famous travellers from past centuries, as well as adding some comments of his own.
