London, Hodder and Stoughton, 1953.
with signed letter from the author
An account of the successful British expedition led by Hunt in 1953, the first ascent of the highest mountain in the world. A great tale of men against the mountain. This copy has been signed by the author and is accompanied by a warm letter from him to the owner recommending his memoir "Life in Meeting" and advice on how to get in contact with the other members of the 1953 expedition. It appears the recipient is trying to collect a signed copy of every book written by the members of the 1953 expedition, or perhaps about the expedition.
First edition; 8vo (23 x 15.5 cm); ALS from the author inserted loose and title signed by author, numerous photographic plates throughout (8 in colour), 3 maps and several other illustrations in the text, slight spotting to text edges; publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, slightly rubbed with a little fading to spine, original pictorial dust wrapper a little rubbed, couple of small nicks to spine foot, lower panel very slightly marked, otherwise a very good copy; xx, 299pp.
