Louis-Théophile Marie Rousselet (1845-1929) is today known for his pioneering camerawork. He was the first photographer after Samuel Bourne to spend a significant time in India (4 years) photographing the country and people. The illustrations here, as often, have been turned into engravings from his original photographs.
New edition, 4to (28 x 20 cm); marbled endpapers and edges, wood-engraved frontispiece, 176 black and white illustrations; contemporary full blue morocco, two-line gilt-panelled border, spine in six compartments with gilt lettering to second, gilt decoration to others, some general signs of wear, corners lightly rubbed, otherwise a handsome, fine binding; very good; xx, 619pp.
