The enlarged third edition of this charming work on freshwater fishing, originally published in 1681 and illustrated with an attractive engraving of twelve fish species.

James Chetham (1640-1692) was a Lancashire estate-holder and businessman, best known for this 'informative and influential account which established his reputation as a leading authority on angling' (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).

Third edition, enlarged; 1 double-page engraved plate, integral advertisements on the final leaf of the text, 20th century bookplate of Robert Mobrawy, light spotting and toning of the contents and a little offsetting from the plates, contents trimmed a little close to the top edge of the text; late 19th-century green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments with flower tools, marbled endpapers, red speckled edges, binding slightly rubbed, an excellent copy; 326 pp plus 10-page index.
