In response to the traditional sitter-artist relationship, Judith Aronson presents us Likenesses, a volume of photography and text interested in the relationship between sitters. The book contains images of, essays about, and essays by many notable personalities including Salman Rushdie, Seamus Heaney, Norman Mailer, Simon Schama, Anne Ridler, and Sarah Caldwell, alongside their partners, friends, and family members. This edition includes a forward from Charles Saumarez Smith, at the time Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts in London and previously director of the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery.This first edition is a signed and from a limited edition of 66 copies which includes a special insert with a photograph of the poet, Geoffrey Hill, and his wife, Alice Goodman, that does not appear elsewhere in the volume.
