An Irish Faustus.
A Morality in Nine Scenes.
Stock Code 108905
London, Faber and Faber, 1968.
from the Durrells to the Nins
A superb association copy with the author's presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'Dearest Anais & Hugo best love from us both at Nimes 1963 being performed December on Hamburg!' With the recipients' rubber stamp above the inscription, 'From the library of Anais Nin and Ian Hugo'. Hugo and Nin were married from 1923 until her death in 1977. The marriage survived her numerous affairs including that with Durrell's close friend Henry Miller. Indeed the trio of Miller, Durrell and Nin are so profoundly cognate (at least in the minds of Mod Lit booksellers) as to be almost inseparable.First edition, first impression, INSCRIBED TO ANAIS NIN; 8vo; publisher's purple cloth, titles to spine gilt. A lovely copy in the price-clipped dust jacket.
