Unusually Near-Fine Copy. Stemming from O'Flaherty's own political-activist experiences, this novel is an investigation of the mind and motives of a political murderer. A year following the publication Arthur Robinson directed the first eponymous film version, followed by another in 1935, directed by John Ford, a cousin of the author's.

First edition, 8vo., 286, [2 (blank)]pp., publisher's advertisement and postcard loosely inserted, publisher's red cloth, spine lettered directly in gilt, colour-printed dust-jacket, top-edge a little dust-stained, very slight nicks to head-cap of dust-jacket, minimal discolouration at joints, otherwise a fine copy.
