April 65'.Sir Frederick Thomas Michell (1788-1873) served as a Captain at the Siege of Algiers in 1816, commanding the flotilla battery as Captain of HMS Queen Charlotte under Admiral Edward Pellew, 1st Baron Exmouth. This is his only account of his actions. He would later go on to serve in the Siege of Sebastopol in the Crimean War, and was Mayor of Totnes from 1855 to 1858.
First edition; small 8vo (19 x 13.5 cm); presentation inscription to front endpaper, portrait frontispiece mounted, folding colour map of Algiers; original blind stamped cloth, gilt lettering to upper board and spine, a touch of rubbing, a very good bright copy; 134 pp.
