This guide is a good example of an early railway guide. It also includes a chapter on the history of Manchester.The London to Birmingham railway opened in 1838. The Grand Junction railway opened for business on 1837 and ran from Birmingham to Warrington via Wolverhampton and Crewe. It then joined the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at a triangular junction at Newton Junction.
2 vols bound in one vol. Small 8vo ( 15 x 10 cm). pp.147, [4] publisher's advert at rear, 147, [6] adverts at rear, 2 large coloured folding maps, some engraved illustrations in text, publisher's green cloth, yellow printed label, a small ink mark, a very good copy.
