These being the third editions of Scottish philosopher John Veitch's (1829-1894) translations from the original French, first published in 1850 and 1853 respectively. Veitch's text was preceded only by Thomas Newcomb's English-language edition of 1644 and 1649.
Rare. We can trace just 6 copies of the third edition of Veitch's Discourse in institutional collections worldwide, and only 2 copies of the third edition of The Meditations. Neither in the British Library.
Two works in 1 vol.; third Veitch editions; 8vo (20 x 12.5 cm); contemporary ownership inscription in pen to front free endpaper recto; publisher's blind-ruled green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, minor wear to corners and extremities, very good; xli, [4], 46-118; [7], vi-xiv, 212pp.
