Richard Short (?-1702) was a naval officer and topographical draughtsman in the GB Royal Navy. Nothing is known of his naval career except the vessels in which he served: Baltimore (a sloop), Peregrine (a sloop built in 1749), Mermaid (a frigate, which he appears to have left before she sailed for Nova Scotia in 1754), Gibraltar (a frigate), and four ships of the line, Leopard (built in 1756), Prince of Orange, Dublin (which returned from the West Indies in 1763), and Neptune. After this service at sea he was appointed to the Chatham dockyard, England. In the pre-photography era drawing lessons formed a regular part of the training of officers.
Short is known to be one of the first English military artists to record Canadian views during the period when British forces were stationed in Canada, which were engraved by various hands after his sketches. He is also known for views of naval engagements, engraved as a series by Caroline Watson and published by Boydell in London.

J. Mynde (spelled here without the 'e') was a British engraver, active from 1740 to 1770. He worked mainly for booksellers producing plates of landscapes, portraits and anatomical subjects which he is best known for. He's portraits of Roger Earl of Orrery and William Harris, Doctor in Divinity rank as his principal.

Pair of copper engraved plates (each 58 x 73.5 cm), uncoloured, mounted on cardboard. Published as part of a larger series that celebrated British naval victories. These depict the capture of the famous Spanish vessel the "Glorioso". Very scarce.
