This commemorative edition was published on the 75th anniversary of Roald Dahl's birth, 13th September 1991.Leslie J. Bricusse was a talented composer and award-winning lyricist. He penned the titular theme song for the film Goldfinger, sung by Shirley Bassey. He composed all musical numbers for the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. We can only assume, judging by the dedication, that the author approved of the composer's output.
First edition thus, limited to 500 numbered sets of which this is number 26, signed and dedicated by author on a tipped-in plate to front of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, signed by the author's daughter to dedication page James and the Giant Peach; 15 volumes, 8vo (142 x 165 mm); illustrated by Quentin Blake and others; publisher's quarter blue morocco over weave pattern paper-covered boards, titles to spine gilt, top edges gilt, each volume preserved in a matching paper-covered slip-case, the whole contained in a large blue paper-covered slip-case, lightly rubbed at a couple of places, otherwise a fine set that appears to be unread.
