London, George Allen and Unwin, 1955
The first letter dated 10 July 1959, in which she thanks Eddison for reading the novel 'so beautifully'. She goes on to say: 'Your perfect reading has given me a better opinion of my novel than I ever had, and that is something to be grateful for. I saw you once playing the Fool in "Twelfth Night", and have ever since had a great regard for you; so that I felt particularly glad and honoured when I heard that you had agreed to read the book. But you have surpassed all my expectations, I cannot tell you how very, very much I have enjoyed your reading.'
The second dated 20 July, 1959, Prawer Jhabvala thanks him for his letter which made her 'wildly happy that you not only read my book so exquisitly, but liked it too', and hopes Eddison will come and visit her in India.
First edition; 8vo; original black cloth, spine lettered in silver, dust jacket.
