One of the scarcer Stein titles, presumably due to its wartime publication. This is the record of Stein's travels between 1932 and 1936 through Southern and Western Iran from the extreme south-east of Baluchistan to the Persian frontiers with Iraq and Turkey in the hills of Kurdistan.

First edition; 8vo (24 x 17.5 cm); coloured folding map in pocket at rear, 112 photographic illustrations, 31 plates of antiquities at end, 25 plans, and 7 maps, discreet previous ownership inscription to front endpaper; publisher's original cloth, gilt medallion to upper board, gilt lettering to spine, a fine copy; xxviii, 432 pp.
