one of 160 copies

A rare short story by Sylvia Plath which she wrote in 1952 while she was still an undergraduate student at Smith College, Massachusetts. It tells the story of a female protagonist who attempts to manipulate a young man she has just met, to no avail. It can be read as a damning precursor to her first and only novel, The Bell Jar which would be published eleven years later, just a few weeks before her suicide.

Limited edition of 160 copies, this being number 146; 8vo (20 x 14); text hand-set in Monotype, unmarked internally; publisher's textured blue wrappers, handmade in the Auvergne by Richard de Bas, titles to upper panel in blue and grey, colophon printed to rear in black, hand-sewn, near-fine; 12pp.
