Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in black ink to the title page: 'To Paul / Tennessee Williams'. The recipient was Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon's stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort. Later, he spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy's Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows, and other publications.First edition to be issued in jacket, preceded by an unjacketed 1949 edition, and with one story revised in this book.
First edition thus, first state, inscribed by the author; 8vo; unmarked internally; publisher's black cloth, titles to spine gilt and silver, red topstain, cloth a little frayed at extremities, with the unclipped pictorial dustjacket by Alvin Lustig, a few nicks to extremities with associated creasing, slight toning and dust-soiling, some rubbing to folds, else very good.
