A finely bound example of Macaulay's Lays, a collection of narrative poems recounting heroic episode from early Roman history, in striking red gilt-panelled morocco by Riviere.This copy given as a prize-binding to Philip Tatton Davies-Cooke OBE (1863-1946) 21st December 1874.
Small 4to (18 x 14.5 cm); wood-engraved additional title and in-text designs, presentation inscription in pen to front free endpaper, endpapers browned, slight spotting throughout; finely bound in contemporary gilt by Riviere, gilt panelled covers with all-over design of fleurs-de-lys, gilt spine in 6 compartments, all edges gilt, a little rubbed with minor wear to extremities, an excellent example; 210pp.
