First edition, second issue (same year as the first issue), thirteenth thousand; 8vo (188 x 140 mm); half-title, 50 wood-engraved illustrations after John Tenniel (including frontispiece), advertisement leaf at rear, usual age-toning, mild spotting to prelims, ownership name and address in ink to half-title, otherwise a clean copy; modern binding, sumptuous red morocco with gilt-borders, gilt outer frame ornamented in dentelle patterning with four small hearts to corners, gilt inner-dentelles with marbled pastedowns and endpapers, decorative hand-tooling to spine, gilt-title to second compartment on spine, publishing location and date to bottom compartment, all edges gilt, a lovely copy, very good indeed; [xii], 224pp, [1], [1] ad.
