One of 50 copies signed by T.S. Eliot on the limitation page and specially bound in silk. Rare in the slipcase in any condition.Isherwood's commission to translate the work came via W.H. Auden, who had been employed as a private tutor for the son of Flora Solomon, the owner of the short-lived Blackamore Press. Auden would later provide the introduction for the 1947 edition.
First English edition, number 42 of 50 copies, specially bound & signed by T.S. Eliot, from a total edition of 400; 8vo; frontispiece, 7 lithographic illustrations reproducing Baudelaire's drawings by D. Jacomet, bookplate to front pastedown, light spotting and offsetting early and late; original cream silk, titles to spine gilt, Baudelaire's signature to upper cover gilt, bevelled edges, top edge gilt, others untrimmed; a very good copy in the defective original card slipcase, lacking backstrip.
