A highly regarded edition of the Brontë sisters' works, enhanced by Elizabeth Gaskell 's biography of her friend, Charlotte Brontë, who died in 1855 and whose biography Charlotte's father, Patrick Brontë, urged her to write. It is the first and only biography by someone who knew the author and was alive during her lifetime; written with warm-hearted admiration and sensitivity.
