Scarce. One of the earliest examples of two colour printing.

From Bernardus Sylvanus's 'Claudii Ptholemaei Alexandrini liber Geographicae...', published in Venice in 1511. 'The editor - according to his apologia in the introduction - deliberately decided to amend the construction of Ptolemy's maps to take account of modern discoveries. This bold step, needless to say, met with only partial success principally because Sylvanus relied on already out-dated information, or felt unable to depart radically from long-standing geographical conceptions.

Woodcut printed in red and black on two leaves, leaf split and re-joined, backed with japan on verso.
