The artist for this work is unknown. The illustrations follow the usual prototypes and it is possible the artist for all the plates was Wagerman. The preface says that the plates were after drawings 'furnished by the liberality of a gentleman who had stored his portfolio during his residence in Constantinople'. The exception to this is the frontispiece engraving of the Turkish Ambassador who sat for his likeness in London. The engravings represent military dress drawn from the full extent of the Turkish Empire, from Egypt to Albania.

First edition; folio (38.5 x 28 cm); 30 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates including vignette title-page by Clark, colour line and stipple engraved frontispiece by Wageman, letterpress description leaf to each plate except the frontispiece (as issued), with half-title, lacking subscriber information leaf, light offsetting, a touch of spotting to endpapers only, marginal tear to plate 9; contemporary half calf, marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt in six compartments, slightly rubbed; [14]pp.
