The Mutiny Memorial was built in 1863 in memory of all those who had fought in the Delhi Field Force, British and Indian, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. In 1972, the 25th anniversary of India's Independence, the Indian Government renamed the monument 'Ajitgarh' ('Place of the Unvanquished') and erected a plaque stating that the 'enemy' mentioned on the memorials were 'immortal martyrs for Indian freedom'.
Lahori Gate is located on the territory of Walled city of Old Delhi and led to the road from Delhi to Lahore. Caravans and travellers coming from Lahore and Punjab used to enter the Delhi city from this gate. Neither the walls nor the Lahori Gate survived until present days. Nevertheless, the place where it stood is still called Lahori Gate, and the area Lahori Bazaar.
