First edition of this extraordinary, quasi-Nietzschean work written as a statement of Lawrence's antipathy to what he called 'the cerebralization of feeling'. In essence, it is a critique of psychoanalysis and the enthusiasm for 'understanding' by which 'the warm, swift, sensual self is steadily and persistently denied, dampened, weakened'.

First edition; 8vo; minor offsetting to endpapers, else unmarked internally; publisher's blue cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper cover, lettering to spine dulled, head and foot of spine bumped, with the original unclipped dust-jacket, a few repairs to folds, some rubbing to lower panel with loss to text, else very good.
