A detailed volume on the geography, politics and economy of Argentina. The large folding map in pocket uses information from Dr. Herman Burmeister and Mr. McCoghlan with additions by Consul Hutchinson- he was Her Majesty's Consul for Rosario Santa Fe.
Rear Admiral Sir Arthur Farquhar (1815-1908) rose in the Navy to Admiral and Commander-in-chief of Plymouth. He was made commander in 1844, and commanded ships HMS Albatross, HMS Malacca, HMS Victory, HMS Hannibal, HMS Hogue and HMS Lion.
First edition, presentation copy; 8vo (23 x 15 cm); presentation inscription from the author to 'Rear Admiral Arthur Farquhar, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Squadron' dated 1872, 8 engraved plates, 16 in-text engravings, 3 folding maps, one of which in rear pocket, armorial bookplate to pastedown, stamp of the British Embassy of Callao to front free endpaper, small tear to hinge of first map, touch of spotting to title; publisher's cloth, spine professionally restored, gilt motif to upper board, gilt lettering to spine, a very good copy; xxi, [3], 321, [3]pp.
