Originally published in 1865 and 1867.Both volumes are classics of Victorian popular zoology by Thomas Rymer Jones (1810-1880), professor of comparative anatomy at King's College, London and of physiology at the Royal Institution.
Reissues; 2 volumes, 8vo (19 x 13 cm); engraved frontispiece to each volume and illustrations throughout, contemporary ownership inscription to each front blank, contents toned, the birds volume with some pale staining to a few leaves in the middle; contemporary green morocco elaborately panelled in gilt with floral rolls, marbled endpapers, gilt turn-ins and edges, very lightly rubbed at the extremities, an excellent set; 456 and 452pp.
