elegant shekasteh script
Khwaju Kermani (d. 1349 AD) was a Persian Sufi mystic and poet. He is best known for Homay o Homayoun, the tale of the Persian Prince Homay who falls in love with the Chinese Princess Homayoun. The works of Kermani are still popular in Iran and the site of his tomb Shiraz remains a tourist destination for his many followers.This manuscript was copied in Qajar Persia, possibly Shiraz, and is a lovely example of shekasteh script from the nineteenth century.
Single volume, illuminated manuscript on paper, in Farsi, 196 leaves, complete, 150 x 95 mm; double-column, 15 lines elegant black shekasteh script, text-blocks and columns ruled in gilt, opening of text with elaborately decorated polychrome head-piece, interlinear colouring of gold to final leaf, final gathering becoming loose, some slight finger soiling else clean and attractive condition; contemporary dark brown morocco, central cartouches cut-out and hand-painted, covers ruled in gilt, later paper label to spine, a little rubbed.
