The first edition of Leighton's (1826-1895) continuous strip view of London from St. Margaret Church to Portland Place, with place notes in the footer. As a mere ten-year old, Leighton was indentured to George Baxter (1804–1867), a wood engraver who specialised in colour woodblock printing, and would remain a great influence on the young apprentice over the course of his life.

First edition, large folding wood engraved panorama (14 x 670.5 cm), light spotting, sectional division at Trafalgar Square repaired with tape to verso, title pasted inside upper cover; purple cloth, gilt decoration in blind, upper hinge split, a little worn.
