William Whitelock Lloyd was a second lieutenant in the first battalion of the 24th Regiment. He served through the Zulu campaign and received a medal. The engravings illustrate the life of an office in barracks, on board ship, and in the field during the Xhosa War of 1878 and the Zulu War of 1879, and include some sketches apparently taken in the subsequent campaign in Burma.
